The Sequence of the Aspects

Moon ruling the reaction
In the relationship between force and resistance, the process of Self-development is directly reflected by the phase of the aspect on the aspect arc:
At the beginning of the outgoing conjunction, the force is still in a symbiotic unity with the resistance. Even though the force is very dynamic, compared to the resistance, the Self does not yet recognize itself in it. As a Lunar re-action (26.1) to this unfamiliarity, there is a Self-image that says that it is not capable of dealing with the resistance. In our journey along the sequence of outgoing aspects, starting with the outgoing conjunction, our Self-awareness wakes up to itself step by step, until it achieves full alertness in the opposition.
Focused outwards
In this phase, the effect of the aspects is focused outwards; the process of Self-development takes place in reaction to the environment, in the outside world. The Self is faced with a situation that it must master by incorporating it into itself, conquering it. Initially, as a Lunar re-action, it will apply too little force.
Ego and Self
In this intermediate phase, we find ourselves in the turning point of the oppositional aspect. After its initial hesitancy in the outgoing opposition, the Self has become in the ingoing opposition fully active in relation to the resistance, the ascendant. In the Self-image that he has now achieved, he wants to seize the resistance, that is, the world, and shape it according to his own desires. This turning point marks the beginning of a new phase, in which he will have less and less grip on the resistance: the power he thought he had, loses its vitality. This power now predominantly lives in his own imagination. So once again, the Self finds itself back in a Lunar reaction, a Self-image, which it needs to turn around: Instead of learning to conquer the result, he needs to learn to relinquish. This development will further unfold through the incoming aspects.
Focused inwards
In the second phase, the effects of the aspects show an inner focus, implying that our Self-development now takes place in our inner world (25.7).
These consecutive phases all take place on the so-called outgoing and incoming arcs.
The major aspects on the outgoing and incoming arcs
In accordance with our previous findings (25.5), we will limit ourselves from now on to the major aspects, as they are the leading figures within our Self-development.
In order to gain more insight into this Self-process, it can be helpful to read through the complete sequence of the major aspects along the outgoing and incoming arcs. This cycle can give the reader a taste of the Self-developmental process (*).
The aspects on the outgoing arc
In the outgoing conjunction, the Self still finds itself in a state of unawareness. The aspect is inert and will only become noticeable if other aspects are affecting it. In that case, it will lead to action in the outside world. It is important to determine which planet is the strongest of the two. If the resistance is stronger than the force, the force can barely move the combination into action. The burden is too heavy, and even though the force does develop some traction, the result is inappreciable.
Moon conjunct Sun
In the outgoing conjunction of Moon and Sun, the Self may be present but does not know itself, does not have an image of itself. Its demeanor is guileless and open. There is hardly any self-reflection and the person has no awareness of his own demeanor. He may have a sunny influence on his environment, but does not realize that he is the one radiating it. There is no inner autonomy and no stress tolerance. Spontaneity on the outside is coupled with insecurity on the inside.
The outgoing sextile brings a first manifestation of the Self into the environment. The Self does not stand on its own feet yet, but it now does notice the effect of its own actions on the environment. Its force is totally focused outwards and produces results. There is no awareness of the task to be accomplished yet, nor any self-reflection. The person does not realize that he has an effect on his surroundings.
